What is dal baht?
Well....
It's a ton of white rice (bhat) with lentil sauce (dal) poured over it. It's also some potatoes and cauliflower (and sometimes green beans) cooked in lentil sauce with a somewhat spicy edge, and red spicier sauce for dipping, sometimes with spinach or a similar green leaf, and some kind of meat - usually mutton or chicken, cooked in little bone-filled nuggets that pretty much can't be eaten without using your hands, and often some hard, thin, cracker-like bread.
That's dal bhat. We ate it nearly every day; at people's homes, at church or business-sponsored meals, at restaurants...at least it was good.
